Creative Auckland-based photographer, Gail Stent, has developed a passion for Fine Art photography over the years. She uses her camera and post production techniques to create images as a form of self expression, evoking emotions in the viewer.
Transport to the workshop is not included, however, we are happy to help arrange transport or put you in touch with any people travelling from your area.
Maximum group size of 4 led by one tutor. Limiting class sizes ensures we provide you with the best learning environment possible, including expert guidance, instruction and personal attention, according to your learning style.
Our exact schedule will be determined according to the whole group’s photographic objectives and the weather. We keep a flexible itinerary to accommodate this. We will spend the workshop instructing and shooting, often from before dawn until after dark. At some point, during the weekend the tutors will give a lecture on their photographic ability and how you can apply their systems and vision to develop your own unique style.
Start time on Friday: We will begin the workshop at lunchtime on Friday starting with a discussion on photography, running through the techniques that will be covered over the weekend and then heading out for a sunset shoot this evening.
Finish time on Sunday: We aim to be finished by 3 pm on Sunday to allow people time to travel home.
A reasonable level of fitness is necessary to enjoy the workshop. There is a reasonable amount of up-hill walking required to and from our locations. If fitness or mobility is an issue please let us know.
Ideally, you will have a basic knowledge of photography and be comfortable adjusting camera settings such as aperture and shutter speed. An aim of the workshop is to give you more confidence in the creative control of camera settings and shooting in manual mode, we will use a lot of “Live View” so make sure you have a second battery. We will have a brief session at the start of the workshop, covering camera settings and controls, to be sure everyone is up to speed.
If you are yet to master the basics, perhaps check out our Photo Schools in Auckland and Wellington.
Camera Equipment: Our workshops focus on how to use your camera, not your type of camera. A basic list of recommended camera equipment can be found here
Clothing: A list of recommended clothing to wear on the workshop can be found here
A non-refundable deposit of NZD$250.00 is required to reserve your space for the workshop. The remaining balance is due 14 days prior to the start of the workshop. You may pay in full at time of booking, the balance (minus the deposit) will remain fully refundable until 14 days before the workshop.

Thank you for a challenging, inspiring, thought-provoking and, above all, educational weekend. You challenged my perception of my photography in such a positive and constructive way throughout the weekend, that I really felt I improved. I appreciated your ability to deal with the very different photographic styles of each of the delegates and yet give us all the time we needed.
Your explanations demonstrated that creativity is a muscle that should be exercised and can be learnt in the same way I learn to use my camera. Indeed, I felt the structure of the course was cleverly devised to build step upon step, so at each opportunity to shoot I had a growing palette of options to draw on and create the photographs I was ‘imagining’.
Thank you for a great weekend and I look forward to working with you again in the future.
The workshop was great. Gail is so inspiring and very focused on the participants. We had a fabulous group of people and I thoroughly enjoyed their company. The locations were perfect, accommodation and meals great. I would definitely recommend your company/workshops to other photographers.
