Option 1 – Meet at Glenorchy: If you are driving yourself you can meet us at Kinloch Wilderness Retreat on Friday night. Once on the workshop we will provide you with transport around the locations or you can follow along in your own car if you wish.
Option 2 – Return transport from Queenstown airport: If you are flying into Queenstown airport we can offer you return transport. Please see notes above on start & finish times, and request recommended flights before booking any.
Maximum group size of 4 will be led by one tutor. Limiting class sizes ensures we provide you with the best learning environment possible, including expert guidance, instruction and personal attention, according to your learning style.
Friday Night: We will meet at Kinloch Wilderness Retreat from 4pm onwards: With the opportunity to shoot sunset and have dinner at the hotel. If you are going to arrive late or not make it for dinner this is fine, our workshops are designed so that you can travel after work and it will not matter if you arrive late on Friday night. We also offer the option to be picked up from Queenstown airport/town at 2pm (see transport below)
Saturday: An early start so we can head around to my favorite dawn spot at the Glenorchy Waterfront. After returning to Kinlock for breakfast we will have an image review session. Our midday shoot takes us to the Lake Sylvan Walkway. For sunset we will explore Paradise Valley.
Sunday: Sunrise shoot with our location dictated by the weather. After returning to the lodge for breakfast we will have another image review session. I have a great couple of locations lined up for our drive back to Queenstown. We aim to be finished by 2pm on Sunday allowing people time to travel home or meet late flights from Queenstown after 4pm.
A reasonable level of fitness is necessary to enjoy the workshop. There is a reasonable amount of up-hill walking required to and from our locations. If fitness or mobility is an issue please let us know.
Ideally, you will have a basic knowledge of photography and be comfortable adjusting camera settings such as aperture and shutter speed. An aim of the workshop is to give you more confidence in the creative control of camera settings and shooting in manual mode, we will use a lot of “Live View” so make sure you have a second battery. We will have a brief session at the start of the workshop, covering camera settings and controls, to be sure everyone is up to speed.
If you are yet to master the basics, perhaps check out our Photo Schools in Auckland and Wellington.
Camera Equipment: Our workshops focus on how to use your camera, not your type of camera. A basic list of recommended camera equipment can be found here
Clothing: A list of recommended clothing to wear on the workshop can be found here
