Autumn Photography Workshop

Based in Wanaka, our Autumn Masterclass offers you the opportunity to capture the drama of Autumn in some spectacular Central Otago landscapes. Expert tutors Richard Young and Glen Howey will help you expand your creative approach to nature and landscape photography in stunning Autumn locations, including backcountry 4WD trips.

The two learning modules on this masterclass

On this masterclass workshop, you will learn how to develop an expressive approach to landscape and nature photography. Autumn is the perfect time of year to work with abstract and intimate subjects within the landscape, and our tutors will lead you through a mixture of both tuition and post-processing sessions to help you create some stunning photographs. We’ll conclude the masterclass by printing two of your best images as 16×22″ fine art prints.

The workshop is based at the Edgewater Hotel in Wanaka. If you are arriving via Queenstown airport, we can pick you up the morning of the workshop, or you can meet us at the Edgewater. On the last day, we can drop you back to Queenstown to connect with late afternoon flights.

Start time on day 1: The workshop will start at 8 am at Queenstown or 10 am in Wanaka. If flying into Queenstown, you must fly in the day before the workshop, as we can not wait for a delayed flight on the morning of the workshop.
Finish time on day 5: The workshop will finish in time to be in Queenstown by 3 pm on the last day to connect with late flights.

Our workshops run with a maximum group size of 8 and 2 tutors, offering 1:4 ratio of tutors to guests. Limiting class sizes ensures we provide you with the best learning environment possible, including expert guidance, instruction, and personal attention according to your learning style. Smaller groups of up to 4 may only be led by one tutor.

A minimum level of physical activity is necessary to enjoy the workshop. Most locations we shoot on this workshop will require walking 15 minus one way along formed tracks carrying your gear.

Ideally, you will have a basic knowledge of photography and be comfortable adjusting camera settings such as aperture and shutter speed. The aim of our masterclass workshops is to cover more advanced creative camera control and help you to further develop your own style and vision. You will also receive Free access to our Online Essential Landscape Photography Course to make sure you are camera-ready for the workshop.

Camera Equipment: Our workshops focus on how to use your camera, not your type of camera you have. A basic list of recommended camera equipment can be found here.

2 of the photos I took on the Autumn Masterclass have won me honours at our Camera Club. Thanks again for the tuition and bullying me to wake up early!

I recently attended this Autumn Masterclass in Wanaka. The tutours willingness to share their vast knowledge with their primary focus on all attendees to get some great shots rather than taking photos themselves Attending these workshops means all the hard work is done for you, the locations have been scouted and research completed for the right conditions and time of the day in order to get the best possible shots. This enables the ability to create some magic. These workshops are first class!
