Based at Mt White Station in the Canterbury High Country, the Mt White Landscape Masterclass is the ideal programme to improve your knowledge and skills as a landscape photographer. We’ll take you out on some 4WD shoots to a range of stunning landscapes from mountains, to rivers to high country panoramas during sunrise and sunset.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The two learning modules on this masterclass

This masterclass workshop will help you improve your skills and knowledge as a landscape photographer. Expert tutors  Glen Howey and Ken Wright will lead you through a mixture of both tuition and post-processing sessions. Tutorials include composition, hyperfocal distance and achieving sharp photographs; designed to help you master the art of capturing awe-inspiring landscape photographs. We conclude the masterclass by printing 2 of your best images as 16×22″ fine art prints.

Mountian Landscape Photography

Learn how to photograph classic mountain landscapes, with tutorials on composition, lens use, hyperfocal distance and working at sunrise/sunset.

Panoramic Landscape Photography

Master panoramic photography, capturing the last light across the tussock-covered landscapes, grand mountain views and braided rivers.

TRANSPORT

The workshop is based at Mt White Station. We will pick the whole group up from Christchurch on the first morning of the workshop. On the last day, we will drop you back to Christchurch City/Airport to connect with late afternoon flights. 

Start time on day 1: The whole group will be picked up from Christchurch at around 8 am, and we will drive to Mt White Station. If flying into Christchurch, you will need to fly in the day before the workshop.

Finish time on day 4: The workshop finishes at midday at Mt White station and returns to Christchurch to connect with late afternoon flights after 4 pm.

ACCOMMODATION

We will be staying at Mt White Lodge, lodge rooms are set up as twin rooms with shared facilities.

Single room upgrades: We have 2x single room upgrades available with ensuites and 2x single room upgrades with shared facilities to book at different prices.

CLASS SIZE

Our workshops run with a maximum group size of 8 and 2 tutors, offering 1:4 ratio of tutors to guests. Limiting class sizes ensures we provide you with the best learning environment possible, including expert guidance, instruction, and personal attention according to your learning style. Smaller groups of up to 4 may only be led by one tutor.

PHYSICAL DIFFICULTY

A minimum level of physical activity is necessary to enjoy the workshop. Most locations we shoot on this workshop will require some walking of  15-30 minus one way along formed tracks carrying your gear.

EXPERIENCE

Ideally, you will have a basic knowledge of photography and be comfortable adjusting camera settings such as aperture and shutter speed. The aim of our masterclass workshops is to cover more advanced creative camera control and help you to further develop your own style and vision. You will also receive free access to our Online Essential Landscape Photography Course to make sure you are camera-ready for the workshop.

EQUIPMENT

Camera Equipment: Our workshops focus on how to use your camera, not your type of camera you have. A basic list of recommended camera equipment can be found here.

BOOKING & PAYMENT

A non-refundable deposit of NZD$400.00 is required to reserve your space for the workshop. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the start of the workshop. You may pay in full at the time of booking, the balance (minus the deposit) will remain fully refundable until 30 days before the workshop.
