For those flying into New Plymouth, we recommend flying in the day before the tour starts, as flights on the morning of the first day of the tour are too late and are problematic if they are delayed.
START TIME – We will be away before 8:00 am on the first day of the workshop. We will be in contact with you a week before the tour to confirm the pick-up time/location. If you are not travelling with us from New Plymouth we will meet you at the reception Ahu Ahu Villas.
FINISH TIME – The workshop finishes at 12:00 pm, and return transport will be provided back to New Plymouth airport for those flying out. Please do not book onward flights before 4 pm.
Maximum group size of 8 will be led by two tutors. Limiting class sizes ensures we provide you with the best learning environment possible, including expert guidance, instruction and personal attention, according to your learning style.
Our exact schedule will be determined according to the whole group’s photographic objectives and the weather. We keep a flexible itinerary to accommodate this. We will spend the workshop instructing and shooting, often from before dawn until after dark. At some point, during the tour the tutors will give a lecture on their photographic ability and how you can apply their systems and vision to develop your own unique style.
A minimum level of physical activity is necessary to enjoy this tour. All locations we shoot will be within a short walk along the forest tracks or the coastline. These are sometimes uphill, over uneven ground, or rocky beaches and you will be carrying your own equipment. On this tour, there may be a couple of longer walk options (30-45 min one way) but if these are difficult for the group, we do have the option to split the group at these locations. If your fitness or mobility is an issue please let us know.
Ideally, you will have a basic knowledge of photography and be comfortable adjusting camera settings such as aperture and shutter speed. An aim of this tour is to get you to the best locations, in the best light. While providing you on-location help from our experienced tutors, to come away with the hero shots of your own personal vision. We will have a brief session at the start of the tour, covering camera settings and controls, to be sure everyone is up to speed.
If you are yet to master the basics, perhaps check out our Photo Schools in Auckland and Wellington.
